Job Description

LonAdd HR Consultancy Plc (www.lonadd.com) is a Recruitment & Outsourcing Company based in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, with branch offices in Dukem and Hawassa. 

We are looking for a competent Assistant Civil Works Project Engineer for our client Tulu Kapi Gold Mine.

Job Purpose

Responsible for coordination, oversight, and quality assurance for all the Companies Civil Construction Activities related to the construction of Tulu Kapi Gold Mine.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Oversight of the construction / supervision of the Tulu Kapi exploration camp / Runway and “Pioneers camp” 
  • Hands on day to day managements of contractors and also direct employed tradesman to ensure construction deadlines are met, this includes taking up various other roles as required.
  • Heat and Safety regulations to be always enforced
  • Compile “ Daily Dairies &  weekly feedback reports” subject to the onsite activities.
  • Review and Scrutinize “Daily Dairies” submitted by the contractors
  • Provided inputs for the monthly project report.
  • Provided technical inputs into contractual claims submitted by Contractors, as and when required.
  • Coaching and mentorship of Junior staff as and when required
  • Manage internal investigations as assigned.
  • General administrative and management duties, as assigned.
  • Ensure contractors are managed in such a way that the timelines and deadlines are met accordingly
  • Planning and procurement to execute inhouse project
  • Other reasonable tasks as allocated.

Location: Tulu Kapi Gold Mine Site (West Wellega) Ethiopia  

Job Requirements

Key Skills/Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • MBA / Project Management qualification - advantageous.
  • “In-field” civil works experience in the construction of Mineral Processing Plants / Roads /Stormwater / Sewage and/or Buildings sector
  • Prior experience working within the EPCM / EPC construction environment as part of the Owners team would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of international standards and industry best practice, as used for construction of mineral processing plants and other civil infrastructure.
  • Experience with QA/QC programs as used for the construction of various infrastructure for the Tulu Kapi mine
  • Project execution experience in austere and complex work environments.
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships at a working level.
  • Experience in Africa.
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Successful experience with managing multiple tasks, with frequent interruptions while meeting demanding and inflexible deadlines.
  • Minimum 10 years’ practical “In field” Hands-on experience.

Competencies Required

  • English speaking and writing.
  • Afaan Oromo speaking.
  • Amharic speaking and writing will be advantageous.
  • Ability to formulate and implement strategic approaches to Risk Management aimed at minimizing business and schedule risks as well social and environmental impacts.

Personal attributes

  • Capacity to work with ambiguity while enforcing rules and regulations governing an operational mine site.
  • Must be able to demonstrate visible leadership while maintaining safety standards, ensuring a safe production worksite.
  • Highly organized and task orientated
