IT Specialist

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION/OBJECTIVES

Imagine1day is an international NGO working in development and humanitarian sector. The organization has begun its operation in 2007. It is registered as Canadian Charity in Ethiopia with its main objective is all Ethiopian children will have access to quality education free of foreign aid by 2030. Currently, the organization has launched My Home project. The project is primarily working on education, life skill development, ICT in schools and child protection in Oromia and SNNP regional states. 

Primary Duties or Responsibilities

GENERAL ROLES

The IT Specialist will work directly under MEAL Manager based in Addis Ababa. Information Technology Specialist is responsible for the effective operation of information technology (IT) services and support across the organization. The Information Technology Specialist serves as a technical expert for the development, implementation, management, and support of systems and networks. The IT specialist plans and carries out exciting, complex assignments and develops new methods and approaches in a wide variety of IT specialties. He/ She evaluate new and enhanced approaches to deliver IT services test and optimize the functionality of systems, networks, and data; and define technical requirements. The Information Technology Specialist is responsible for providing various forms of computer-related technical assistance and improving the efficiency of the work of the staff through the use of technology.  

MEAL SUPPORT TO COUNTRY TEAM 

  • Work closely with MEAL team to understand the requirement of imagine1day management information system as per different project reporting requirements. 
  • Ensure data protection and safeguarding features are inbuilt in the imagine1day MIS/database to maintain confidentiality and protect personal identity information.
  • Responsible for maintenance and backup of internal development servers.
  • Ensure regular database server and cloud backups, security measures to prevent and detect unauthorized data access for data entry, editing, processing or retrieval and virus protection of digital data, manage user login identifications and passwords,
  • Design database architecture to house quantitative data, survey, and geospatial data, Utilize the latest emerging technologies to facilitate data driven programmatic decision-making and different project quality assurance. 
  • Coordinate and communicate with country office staff when necessary to address issues in database development or data management.
  • Participate in and contribute to imagine1day MEAL strategy and work plan including development and updating MEAL documents such as result framework (RF), Performance Indicator setting, developing training manuals/guidelines, surveys and assessments etc.
  • Conduct regular quality checks and field visits are made to project activities, providing feedback and recommendations to relevant parties. And orient and support staff on ensuring project data and information quality.
  • Support in coordinating the baseline and final evaluation, post distribution monitoring along with other key evaluation and research activities.
  • Support the documentation including data collection for the development of case studies and success stories with communication team.
  • Coordinate reporting with implementing and field level partners, specifically tracking deadlines; ensuring adherence to formats and requirements; ensuring reporting quality and accuracy; and periodic report writing, editing, and submission.
  • Share compiled data coming from region, zone, districts as needed for reporting to UNICEF and other partners information sharing with stakeholders as required 
  • Maintain coordination with the partner NGO M&E staff to ensure monitoring data collection processes in the district level are up-to-date.
  • Support in organizing performance review and reflect sessions at Head office, Regional and field level. 
  • Assist other staff in special events and activities as required
  • Plan, develop, and manage all IT services, programs, and support throughout the selected Schools.


Job Requirements

Education Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS/Database management system, any discipline related to software development, data analysis and/or relevant technical certification. Holding MA/MSc with specified experience is desirable

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in development and humanitarian field with at least 2 years’ experience in database designing and implementing successful data management systems
  • Knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and methods; systems testing and evaluation principles, methods, and tools; IT security principles and methods
  • Experience of MEAL data analysis and reporting
  • Delivering technology or data-based capacity building for field teams 
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members. 
  • Strong team coordination, listening, consensus building skills and learning attitude. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural setting with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders. 
  • Experience using DHIS2 and Toladata or any other data management systems is highly preferred
  • Experience with statistical software and data collection tools such as SPSS/STATA, Kobo toolbox, DHIS2
  • Skills in education, Emergency project areas is desirable but not mandatory
  • Ability to speak Amharic and good command of English language.
  •  Ability to speak any other local languages will be an added advantage
